This is a podcast. If you’re receiving this by email, you will find the download link at the bottom or you can visit the site for the player.

Karen McQuestionKaren McQuestion is one of the original Kindle self-publishing success stories.

Her self-published ebooks sold by the truckload; one (A Scattered Life) was been optioned by Hollywood; and this led to her signing with AmazonEncore, Amazon’s flagship imprint.

I spoke to Karen McQuestion at her home in Wisconsin about:

  • how she got into self-publishing on Amazon
  • what the journey looked like for her
  • how she promotes her books
  • to what she attributes her success
  • her advice to other self-publishing authors
  • her recent trip to the BookExpo in New York as a guest of Amazon

She is a wonderful author and a charming interviewee. It was a pleasure and privilege to talk to her.

If you want to hear from someone who has truly made it as a self-published author, this is your chance.

Great interview, with lots of practical comments.  I’m interested in the idea of engaging in particular message boards as a kind of background marketing activity.  There’s rather a lot of those – is finding some in your genre the most important thin for making that successful?

Truth be told, @facebook-656865162:disqus , I think it would be a case of experimenting. Focussing on a board in your genre is probably the best place to start but if the board doesn’t have enough traffic…

Thank you so much for offering this podcast. Karen is very down to earth, and her success is very inspiring. I have six books now on Amazon, and just this week added kindle versions for two of them. I am happy to hear that her pricing is exactly what I did for these two titles. I invite you to go to my author page to see the titles, and perhaps choose one that appeals to you. I can be found at: http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B00580PJ9Y. I also have a blog at http://terrysthoughtsandthreads.blogspot.com.
